UK Travel : Great Places To Stay In London
If you are going to visit London you should think about staying in one of the hotels in the following places…
The West End – This is London’s theater district, so you will be close to all the great shows as well as some of the best attractions, including the Globe Theater (home to Shakespeare in his day), Trafalgar Square, the National Gallery, Leicester Square and the London Zoo. The West End is a popular tourist destination with load of vacationers frequenting it. With so much tourist attention the West End is consequently full of hotels to meet your needs and budget. London’s West End is comprised of four major parts. This includes “The Strand” which is a street to the south, Oxford Street which runs to the north, Regent Street which runs to the west and Kingsway which runs to the east.
Bayswater / Paddington – Paddington and Bayswater are also both very attractive destinations. Bayswater is essentially a residential area located near the Paddington district. The older hotels in his part of London were once large family homes, so there is a real sense of warmth and elegance. The underground in the Bayswater area includes several connecting lines, so you will have quick and easy access to most of London, including the city centre. Film buffs might be interested to know that “Notting Hill” with Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts was set in one of the more well-heeled and popular sections of Bayswater. One of the most popular sites in this part of London is the Portobello Road Antique Market, the nearly legendary shopping extravaganza that is held every Saturday.
Kensington – If you do not want to be hammered by all the hustle and bustle of city life but you still want to be able to reach it easily, then you should look for a hotel in Kensington. Kensington has many of its own green areas such as parks and gardens, but it is also connected to mass transit so you can go to anywhere you would like. Kensington Palace, where Princess Diana lived, is also naturally in Kensington. When you stay in the Kensington district, you can expect to experience all that London has to offer in terms of ambiance and ritual. All of these locations are great if you really want to experience London at its finest.
Westminster – The historic seat of power, located in the center of London. Westminster is where the current governing body of England sits in the Palace of Westminster. The palace shares Westminster Square with the House of Commons, the House of Lords and the always popular Big Ben. Near Westminster is the wondrous Buckingham Palace, home of Queen Elizabeth the Second. One of the amazing sight not to miss is the “Changing of the Guard”, every day just before noon, at Buckingham Palace’s main gate. Westminster is also home to that other great symbol of political power, Downing Street. There are a wide variety of hotels in this area as well as several underground stops for those short side trips.
