Reduce your Impact on the Environment this Christmas

Christmas is one of the best times of the year, lots of food, fun and gifts. The only downside to this holiday season is that it’s one of the most damaging times for the planet. Because of the insane amount of food and gifts we buy, a large amount of rubbish is created from the packaging. Unfortunately, there is not much you can do about the big rubbish makers, but, making changes to little things during Christmas can all make a difference to the environment.

All the little things can really make a difference, whether you choose to buyeco gifts rather than ones that are damaging to the environment. However, this can be a bit difficult unless your buyingkitchen accessories orbathroom storage, which tend to not make good presents. Or maybe you choose to do something a little easier like using recycled wrapping paper.

One big waster each Christmas is the common cracker. Although they are great fun for the 20 seconds you use them, they are a huge waste. When you think about it, the whole thing is bad for the environment. The entire thing is made from paper and cardboard which is all thrown straight in the bin after the day. As for the insides, which normally consists of a plastic item which just gets thrown away after 10 minutes.

Fortunately, if you have the spare time, you can make your own crackers. Although there are many shops that offer eco-friendly crackers, why not make your own and go all the way. Another advantage of making your own crackers is that you can choose the prizes, meaning no more cheap plastic dice.

Don’t be turned off at the idea of crearting your own crackers, they are quite simple. The majority of the equipment you need can be found around the common home. Take the cardboard inner shell, it’s the easiest item to get hold of, simply use empty toilet rolls. The only possible thing you would have to buy from the shop would be the snappers.

There are hundreds of guides on the internet that explain how you can build your own crackers.If only everyone took the effort to make these little changes at Christmas, the environment wouldn’d be damaged as much each year.
