How To Enjoy A Takeaway Without Piling On The Pounds
When you speak about Indian takeaways and takeaways in general, they are always considered as being fattening and bad for your health, but people never really realise that some of the menu is more healthy than others. Obviously if you were to choose something layered in batter, it’s going to be less healthy than say crab and corn soup. You just have to be aware of what’s good for you and what’s terrible for you, that way you can still enjoy your meal while being healthy.
Here are a few tips to make sure you find the healthiest items on the menu for the next time you go to your local takeaways.
Fish and Chips: The worst things on the menu tend to be chips, which you can’t really avoid, sausage, cheese and onion pie, steak and kidney pie. As for the best things, try to stick to fish, cod, haddock and plaice are the best as they contain the less fat.
Pizza: The worst choice you could have would be to have a deep pan base as these contain the most fat. As for toppings, try and stay away from extra cheese and pepperoni. If you are looking for something healthier, your best bet would be a thin crust with either vegetable or fish toppings.
Chinese: Avoiding things that are crispy is your best bet as these are generally deep fat fried. The items that are worst for you are the sweet and sour battered meat balls, fried rice and finally spring rolls. If you are going for the healthy line, stick with items that are steamed. Items such as crab and corn soup, chicken, beef, boiled rice, or steamed vegetables are the healthiest options.
Indian foodIndian: This is very similar to Chinese, avoiding foods that have been deep fried is your best bet for avoiding fatty foods. For a healthier meal, your best items would be vegetable curry, chicken tikka, madras or bhuna. The best thing to have with them would be boiled rice.
Hopefully this will help you to change your order for something more healthier instead of your usual deep pan, triple cheese, pepperoni pizza. As I wrote that, I was certainly shocked because I order all of the bad stuff, but I guess that’s the way it is. The stuff that tastes the best, tends to be the worst for us.
